A beautiful commentary on Uxmal and more, Marty. It’s such a beauty of a site. I think the sun and shadows on those pinkish rocks make it even more spectacular.
Interesting. The only part of Chiapas I've seen iguanas in is El Chiflón, and the iguanas there are protected. I wonder if they were eaten too much here so you can't find them anymore. 😅
Michael, I remember seeing many more iguanas when I was a kid. They are a protected species in most parts of Mexico; hopefully, their numbers will improve through education. Authorities are working to discourage folks from consuming them, but they remain a delicacy in many regions.
Funnily enough, it was just yesterday that a local told me he used to see iguanas nearby, too. I think your hope is likely to come true. The more education there is about it, the more they'll come back.
